A Phoenix woman is facing assault charges after attacking a neighbor with a shovel during an argument, police say.

Just after midnight on Saturday, 57-year-old Guadalupe Gutierrez got into an altercation with her neighbor outside her home near 12th Street and Roeser Road.

Gutierrez then allegedly took a shovel and hit the victim two times over the head, breaking the shovel in two.

She threw the broken shovel over the fence, but it was found by offices, who took her into custody.

Gutierrez has been charged with aggravated assault.

It is unclear what prompted the argument between Gutierrez and the victim.
