A man broke into his ex-girlfriend's Phoenix apartment and threatened her and her boyfriend with a pickax.

Phoenix Police report that just before 2 a.m., near 19th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, Aaron Colby Clegg,  35, broke down his ex-girlfriend's apartment door and entered with a pickax.

Police say he lunged at her with the ax in his hand and then used it to smash her television and a wall. Clegg also allegedly threatened her boyfriend with the ax and then choked him with one hand, while holding the ax in the other.

Police located Clegg a few hours later at his home in Peoria.

Upon his arrest, Clegg reportedly admitted to being at the apartment and confronting the couple but denied having an ax with him at the time.

Police say a yellow-handled pickax was found in his garage.

Clegg was arrested for criminal damage, burglary, and aggravated assault.
