Each Friday, we're looking for your help to track down fugitives in our state.

Wanted: Carmelo Rodriguez
Charges: Probation violation of amended charges of attempted child molestation

A man convicted twice of sex crimes with children is missing from adult probation services. Carmelo Rodriguez, age 80, is on lifetime probation after serving 11 years on an amended charge of attempted child molestation.

Rodriguez was last seen at a hotel in Mesa when he checked in on May 10 with a known prostitute. His ex-wife contacted police telling them that his credit card was used over the May 14th weekend at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Nevada.

In 1997, Rodriguez molested a 2-year-old family member multiple times. A plea agreement was entered into and Rodriguez was sentenced to 11 years, 8 months in prison and also given lifetime probation. His last contact with probation services was May 12.

Rodriguez was a registered sex offender in California having been convicted of having sex with a minor after he molested three children in 1979. In a court report related to that sentencing it was said of Rodriguez that, "he had two prior marriages, both terminated in divorce, with sexual misconduct as a significant problem area in both marriages." The same report indicated that neighbors said Rodriguez was touching neighborhood children inappropriately. Other incidents were also reported that did not involve family members, but charges were never filed.

In his presentence report for the 1997 crime in Arizona it was said of Rodriguez, "It also appears the defendant has selected spouses in an effort to position himself close to their children and grandchildren for ongoing access to victims."

Rodriguez is described as 5-foot 11, 270 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes.
