In a matchup of two deadly weapons, a shotgun beat out a car for resolving a situation in the southwest valley.

Court records show that on May 1 around 11 p.m. a Buckeye man tried to run someone over but was scared off when a shotgun blast hit his vehicle.

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies were called to the home near Rainbow Valley and Riggs roads where victims and witnesses say 43-year-old William Cahill tried to run over a man in front of his home.

The victim managed to evade the car and grabbed a shotgun from his truck. He fired a couple of warning shots and told Cahill to leave the property.

Cahill reportedly stayed on the property, driving erratically, when another man grabbed the shotgun, fired and hit the car in the passenger-side door.

Cahill then drove away.

The victims, who police said know each other, called him and recorded the conversation, where MCSO says Cahill threatened to come back and kill everyone after the police left because his car was shot.

Victims told law enforcement two days before the incident Cahill was at the home, attacked a woman and set fire to her car.

MCSO arrested Cahill later on May 1 at his home about a block away. Cahill, who is on probation for aggravated assault, denied to investigators that he tried to run over the victim. He reportedly told MCSO that if he wanted to run him over he would have, because that was the reason for his prior incarceration.

Cahill faces several charges including assault, aggravated assault and issuing threats.
