SURPRISE, AZ -- Authorities say a west Valley security guard was kidnapped, then released along a freeway north of the Valley Tuesday night.

Surprise Police Sgt. Mark Ortega said that around 11:30 p.m. the 60-year-old security employee saw three men load bundles of folded cardboard onto a truck at the rear of a Walmart store near Bell and Litchfield roads.

The security guard reportedly followed the men out of the parking lot and when they stopped at a nearby intersection one of the suspects got out of the truck and confronted the victim with a knife.

Ortega said the suspect got into the victim's vehicle and forced him to follow the truck.
Both vehicles reportedly drove to the area of Interstate 17 and Table Mesa Road where the suspects released the victim and his vehicle.

The victim was not injured and the case is under investigation, Ortega said.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4000.
