PHOENIX -- Police are still looking for suspects after a female driver was struck several times in what appears to be a random shooting from over the weekend.
That driver is in critical condition at a local hospital.
Phoenix Police Officer Luis Samudio said that around 5 a.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old female driver, along with a man and two small children, were in a car on 75th Avenue near Thomas Road when occupants in another vehicle opened fire on them.
"It's sad and heartbreaking to me stuff like this has to happen in the world today," said Shaan Mirchandani, an employee at a nearby Shell station.
Samudio said the woman was struck several times and was transported to a local hospital.
"Sadly, we're used to it," said Sonny Mirchandani, another employee at the Shell station. "We do our best to keep safe and avoid trouble at all costs; it's a rough neighborhood."
The other passengers in the vehicle were not injured, according to Samudio.
"It's terrible, disgusting that someone would go to that extent and hurt other people as well," added Sonny Mirchandani.
Officials said the motive for the shooting is unknown.
The only details of the suspects described three people in a light-colored sedan, between the ages of 18 and 20 years old.
The suspect vehicle reportedly fled north on 75th Avenue after the shooting.
"It makes me feel scared that people are that terrible," said Shaan Mirchandani.
No other details were released Saturday night.
