Chandler police arrested a Phoenix man for leaving his dog in a hot SUV parked at Chandler Fashion Center.

On Friday afternoon, a flight attendant who was parked nearby heard the dog barking in the car and called police.

Police said Eugene Scott, 27,  left his dog "Brother" inside his Ford Explorer for at least 35 minutes while he went inside the mall to get something to eat.

Scott's windows were partially rolled down, but police said that didn't matter due to the excessive heat.

Officers reported that Brother suffered mild heat exhaustion. The 1-year-old Puggle, a pug/beagle mix, was taken to a local animal hospital where he was hooked up to an IV before being given back to Scott.

Police are recommending that Scott be charged with one count of cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor.

Scott said he didn't know how long he was in the mall and didn't realize how hot it was outside, according to police.
