PHOENIX -- Little Rue looks no bigger than a mouse but the stray puppy has a lot of fight in her.

Born with only two legs, the six-week-old Chihuahua is learning how to get around while trying to overcome a stay in the hospital after getting sick.

“We don’t see it that often and when we do see it usually we have to humanely euthanize these animals because, a lot of times, they're so labor intensive or there are other problems that we see with these guys,” said Dr. Nancy Bradley, Director of Medical Services at the Arizona Humane Society.

“Sometimes there are liver problems or kidney problems or things like that and, so far, there doesn't appear to be with Rue and she just needs extra TLC,” added Bradley.

“She's still kinda real topsy turvy because she's so little and she's still uncoordinated,” Bradley said.

Bradley said the Humane Society’s Second Chance Animal Hospital took Rue in after a Valley animal clinic found the stray.

Vets hope to fit Rue with a special device that has wheels on it so she can move around better.
