PHOENIX - A new low-cost airline with flights from Mexico has landed in Arizona.
According to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, Volaris made its initial flight from Guadalajara, Mexico to Phoenix on Saturday.
The airline announced in June that it will begin service to Phoenix with flights from Guadalajara and Mexico City three times a week.
The Mexico City flights will begin on December 4, 2013.
Mayor Greg Stanton, who was on the inaugural flight, said Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport continues to "recover from the national economic downturn and new airlines joining our airport is true evidence of that."
Enrique Beltranena, CEO of Volaris, said, "We are helping to bring together families and friends on both sides of the border."
With the addition of Phoenix to its network, Volaris will serve a total of 11 destinations in the U.S.
