PHOENIX - Western movies are full of rifles and six-shooters, but how hard is it to shoot with those old single-action weapons?
Well, the competition was pretty stiff out at the Ben Avery shooting range near Phoenix where the Single Action Shooting Society gathered.
These men and women have made a sport out of re-enacting cowboy action scenes such as a train robbery, a shootout inside a saloon and fighting off attackers from the fort.
Single action means shooting old school where with every single shot you pull the hammer back on the trigger or lever the rifle.
The bullets used are less powerful than the real thing, but they can still sting you.
Participants wear authentic Western garb and develop characters to give the competition even more realism.
