"Unplug and Reconnect" at the Valley of the Sun YMCA

Statewide Valley of the Sun YMCA locations are collecting electronics to recycle and donate to schools and nonprofit organizations in need.  The "Unplug and Reconnect" initiative brings the Y's pillar of Social Responsibility to life and solidifies its commitment to giving back to the community and those in need.

From September 15 to September 30, all Valley of the Sun YMCA branches, including Flagstaff and Yuma, will have donation boxes set up for used but useful electronics. All community members are encouraged to participate. Nonmembers who donate and purchase a Y membership will receive $75 off a membership initiation fee. At the Yuma, Maryvale and South Mountain Y's, new member sign up fees will be waived.

"Not only does the campaign benefit children and nonprofits in need, nonmembers who donate and join the Y will save on membership that will help jumpstart a healthier lifestyle,"said Kerri O'Brien, Valley of the Sun YMCA Chief Operating Officer. " According to a recent study by the Kaiser Family Foundations, today's children and teens spend more than 7.5 hours a day consuming media or being 'plugged in.' This is a perfect opportunity to 'unplug' and enjoy some family time."

Westech Recyclers is a local electronic recycling company dedicated to providing schools and local charities in need. This partnership has the potential to make a huge impact on Arizona. With every donation, much-needed technology will become available to underprivileged students and adults.

All Valley residents are encouraged to drop off used but useful cell phones, computers and more at their nearest Valley of the Sun YMCA location. For more information on the Valley of the Sun YMCA and to find your nearest branch, visit www.valleyymca.org   or call (602) 404-9622.
