What is Science Care?

With company headquarters in Phoenix, AZ Science Care is the nation’s largest accredited whole body donation program. Whole body donation provides individuals who wish to give back, the opportunity to donate their bodies to science for medical research and training. The program is no cost and most all will qualify.  Science Care works with hundreds of the most prestigious and top-rated medical device companies, medical schools, universities, research hospitals and individual research physicians across the globe.  The medical researchers are on the cutting-edge of developing new treatments, products and procedures for conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, bone and joint disorders, lung disease, liver disorders, heart disease and much more. Tens of thousands of surgeons and physicians worldwide have been trained through the Science Care program over the past 14 years. The vast majority of new medical treatments and medical breakthroughs would not have been possible without the generosity of whole body donors.

Each year, an estimated 30,000 people in the United States generously donate their bodies to medical science and yet more donors are needed to further medical research and training. As the worldwide leader in whole body donation, Science Care’s Donor Registry numbers more than 70,000 prospective donors nationwide. People residing in AZ, CA, CO, FL, TX and PA can join the registry and make their wishes known.

HOPE: A SPECIAL PROGRAM FOR HOSPICE PATIENTS

For patients in hospice care, Science Care offers a “HOPE” Program. The Science Care HOPE Program is a pre-screening program that allows patients, families, and healthcare providers to know with certainty if a donor meets current research criteria before the time of passing and guarantees acceptance for 12 months. This gives your family peace of mind when it’s needed most. If you are a caregiver, and would like more information about the Science Care HOPE Program, or would like to receive some brochures about Science Care that you can pass along, call 844-385-4417.

COMMON QUESTIONS

The most common question about whole body donation is, “who can donate?” The answer is simple. Most everyone will meet criteria for donation, including those with cancer, heart disease, arthritis and diabetes.

Another frequently asked question is whether or not you can choose to be both an “organ donor for transplant” and a “whole body donor for medical research”. With the Science Care body donation program, we can help to facilitate BOTH organ donation for transplant as well as whole body donation for medical research and education. Transplant purposes take first priority due to the inherent life-saving nature. With organ donation you can save a life. With whole body donation, you can help save thousands of lives into the future.

Another important family benefit of whole body donation is upon acceptance into the Science Care program, there is no cost and includes free cremation with the return of cremated remains in 3-5 weeks.
