Crisis Nursery event to raise funds, awareness about thousands of AZ child abuse cases

In the face of mounting challenges for Arizona's families in crisis, plans are underway for an important fundraiser to support Crisis Nursery , the longest serving children's shelter in Arizona.

For more than three decades, Crisis Nursery has provided a safe haven and programs for children who are victims of abuse and neglect.

While Arizona can boast about its scenic frontiers and sunny skies, sadly all is not as bright when it comes to the welfare of many of the Valley's children.

A shocking 1 in 5 Arizona households do not have enough money to buy food.

40% of children under the age of five in Central Phoenix live in poverty.

25 Children are removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect EACH day.

71 Children died of abuse last year.

Fortunately, Crisis Nursery provides a safe haven, support and a lifeline when emergencies arise or families break down. Since 1977, Crisis Nursery has served more than 21,000 children and their families.
Crisis Nursery depends on contributions from the community to fund these critical services to families, including their Children's Shelter, FACES Early Head Start, Foster Care and Healthy Families programs.

"The generosity of many in our community help us fulfill our mission to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect," said Maria Williams, Co-Chair for The Friends of Crisis Nursery, a creative group of diverse women committed to raising a significant portion of Crisis Nursery's annual operating budget.

This year's major fundraising event, Diamonds are Forever, is a James Bond 007-themed dinner, dance and silent auction Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Montelucia Resort and Spa. Entertainment will be provided by the sensational Zowie Bowie. Live auction items include a Black Diamond Cadillac CTX generously donated by Arrowhead Cadillac, A Hollywood Experience at the Emmys including air, 2 nights hotel and dinner, a one week all-inclusive Cancun vacation and a 7 night stay at a private 3 bedroom villa in Cork, Ireland. Proceeds from the evening will be donated directly to Crisis Nursery's operating budget.
