4 ingredients for a post summer glow

After spending countless hours in the sun and the pool all summer long, it's time to replenish our skin and hair. While it may not necessarily be Fall by Arizona standards, it's time to put the moisture back in, and get your skin glowing again.

Lori MacGregor, with LATHER shares 4 ingredients that can help give you more radient skin.

1. Avocado - Avocado oil is incredibly moisturizing for both skin and hair. We use it our Avocado Mint Hair Repair, but you can take a plain avocado from the grocery store, mash half of it up with a fork, and mix with an egg yolk to add protein. Then, add a little bit of olive oil to hydrate and condition. Apply mask all over hair, concentrating on the ends.

2. Coconut - Coconut oil is an excellent natural moisturizer as it easily penetrates the skin, moisturizing, repairing, and helping to prevent the signs of aging. We use it in a number of products, including Coconut Crème Body Whip, but you can use pure coconut oil as a massage oil or moisturizer. Coconut oil can also be used to help heal bug bites and scratches, as it forms a protective seal that keeps out infection.

3. AHAs - AHAs are Alpha Hydroxy Acids, natural exfoliators which penetrate the skin, breaking down the glue between dead skin cells, promoting new growth, and revealing fresh, younger looking skin. AHAs can help with fine lines, irregular pigmentation and age spots, and may help decrease enlarged pores.

- Glycolic acid, derived from sugar, is ideal for treating sun-damaged skin. We just introduced a new mask that contains glycolic acid to even out skin tone and brighten the skin. Sugar is also great to use in body scrubs to help lift uneven skin and soften the entire body.

- Lactic acid, derived from milk, retexturizes skin. Cleopatra used to bathe in it, so you can add it to a bath for silky softness all over, or use a cotton ball to apply milk directly to face as a combination cleanser/toner. Oily skinned types should use skim milk; other skin types may use whole milk.

4. Grapeseed Oil - This awesome oil derived from wine grapes includes antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that fight sun damage and free radicals, help produce more collagen, and promote younger-looking skin. It penentrates more deeply into the skin than other oils, so is commonly used as a moisturizing agent for dry skin. However, grapeseed oil also has mild astringent properties, and is also used to help tone and treat acneic and oily skin. We use it in a number of our anti-aging products, but you can use pure grapeseed oil at home. For an easy eye treatment, pat some grapeseed oil around the eyes about 20 minutes before a shower, then let the steam help it penetrate into skin. The area will look brighter, smoother, and over time, show fewer visible lines and wrinkles.
