Test question asks third graders to reveal their secrets

Some parents say they have a real problem with a standardized test question aimed at 3rd graders.

The question on the written part of a test in New Jersey asked students to write about a secret that they found hard to keep.

Parents say the question felt a little like Big Brother was asking it.

Children's advocates worry the question could conjure up painful issues for some kids.

They point out that topics such as parents getting divorced or maybe even past abuse might come up.

Thinking about those issues could really affect how well a kid can focus on the test, not to mention the emotional baggage they'd have to deal with.

What do you think?

Are these concerns overblown or legitimate?

How would you feel if your 8 or 9 year old son or daughter were asked to answer this question in class?
