Some doctors prescribing dogs over medication?

Some doctors are prescribing dogs instead of medication to treat anxiety and depression, according to a Wednesday report.

If you are a dog owner, you've probably already experienced the health benefits a furry friend can bring into your life.

According to an article on your body is flooded with oxytocin when you pet a canine.

Oxytocin is a hormone that reportedly makes you feel lovey, more bonded, and can make wounds heal faster.

The article said petting a dog can lower blood pressure, stress, and anxiety.

Seeing a dog can have the same affect, according to the report.

In a BBC News article , Dr. Deborah Wells said pet owners tend to be healthier than the average person.  

There is also a suggestion that canines can help in recovery from serious illnesses and even act as and early warning to sense an approaching epileptic seizure, according to Wells.
