LOS ANGELES - In one of the most epic moments in Oscar history, Ellen DeGeneres' selfie with a group of A-list stars crashed Twitter.
DeGeneres originally went up to Meryl Streep and quipped about Streep's record-breaking Oscar nominations, saying she now wanted to break a record for most re-tweeted photo.
Before DeGeneres knew it, an entire group of stars jumped in.
When she posted the photo from her Twitter account, @TheEllenShow, she captioned it: “If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best photo ever.”
Within minutes of DeGeneres posting the picture on Twitter, the social media site went down, forcing even the Academy to stop tweeting.
Twitter tweeted out: "The envelope please... to @Ellenshow - this is now the most re-tweeted Tweet with over 1 million RTs. Congrats!"
@TheAcademy posted a photo on their Twitter feed saying "Something is technically wrong" and took the blame: "Sorry, our bad."
The outage was fairly short-lived and Twitter was back up and running within 10 to 15 minutes.
