TEMPE, AZ - ASU Gammage is celebrating its 50th anniversary by recognizing the people who helped build its success -- the patrons and the shows.
Director Colleen Jennings-Roggensack said she wants to pay tribute to all those who have filled the seats throughout the years since its grand opening in September 1964.
And she's doing it by bringing a powerhouse selection of shows that not only features the popular classics, such as Wicked and Phantom of the Opera, but those shows that are setting the stage for the future, like Kinky Boots and Pippin.
"As always I want the Tony award-winning shows, she said. "Other theaters do too, but we get [them.]"
During their season announcement event Monday night, March 17, Jennings-Roggensack told the audience that ASU Gammage will be having an open house this year that will have allow people to learn about the history of the 3,000-seat theater, including it's famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
"You are sitting where history happened," she said.
Viewers were also entertained with performances from cast members of the musical, Motown, and Pippin.
