Arizona-based Roadhouse Cinemas is set to open its first dine-in theater in the Valley on Friday.
The company spent $3 million renovating the now-closed Ultra Star theatre at The Pavilions at Talking Stick near the Loop 101 and Indian Bend.
Josh Snider, president of Roadhouse Cinema, said much of the inside was gutted. All the seats were replaced with leather recliners, the technology was upgraded and a restaurant/bar was added to the lobby. They also added an outdoor patio with a fire pit.
It sounds like much more than a theatre. That's because it is more than a theatre, according to Snider.
"[The theatre] will be more than a place to see a movie, it will be an experience," he said. The bar will serve local craft beer and wine and food made from scratch, including flatbread pizza, burgers, Keg root beer floats and cheesecake.
It should be noted that the theatre is designed with adults in mind. While it will show major blockbusters geared toward kids from time to time, it will not show every one.
In fact, children under six are not allowed in the theatre, unless it's to see a kid-friendly movie. Children under 13 will not be allowed to see R-rated films. The policy will change depending on the movies available so if you're planning to catch a flick, you may want to call the theatre ahead of time.
Roadhouse Cinema Scottsdale will open to the public on Friday, May 13 at 7 p.m.
A complete movie listing was not yet posted online, but Snider said they would be showing Captain America: Civil War on Friday and adding new films shortly after.
Because it's a dine-in theatre, guests will be able to push a button on the side of their chair during the movie and a server will come to you to take your order.
Roadhouse has another cinema at 4811 E. Grand Road in Tucson, Arizona.
