Gwin Wine Cafe seeks to bring specialty and local wines to Scottsdale

Tucked away in the Shea Scottsdale Shopping Center is a boutique wine cafe that recently opened its doors.

Gwin - which means "wine" in Cornish - will serve specialty, small-production and local wines, as well as local beer.

Co-owners Alex Manuel, Richi Patel and Sean Babin wanted to highlight some of those hard-to-come-by wines to the Scottsdale community.

"[We're] trying to bring in some unique stuff you don't see at many places in the Valley," said Manuel.

The 30-seat bar is the centerpiece of the room. Manuel said Gwin's rustic look was designed after his family's ancestral roots in Cornwall, England. Guests will notice a lot of reclaimed wood, dim light fixtures, rustic metal stools and dark colored walls.

They've partnered with Cornish Pasty Co. to serve half-sized pasties. They will also have Charcuterie boards, baked Brie, an olive oil platter, and olives.
