Cinco de Mayo in the Valley: 10 parties to attend this weekend

PHOENIX - Still looking for a place to celebrate the Mexican militia's 1862 victory over the French army at the Battle of Puebla?

You know, Cinco de Mayo.

We've compiled a list of 10 Cinco de Mayo parties in the Valley that feature beer tasting, live music, comedians and racing Chihuahuas. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

PETA's Vegan Cinco de Mayo

Where: Intersection of Washington St. and Central Ave. in Phoenix
When: Friday, May 3 at noon
Cost: FREE

"Sexy senoritas" wearing chili-pepper bikinis will hand out free vegan burritos Friday. Stay healthy by going vegan for Cinco de Mayo!

Old Town Mexican Beer Fest

Where: Spanish Fly Mexican Beach Club in Scottsdale
When: Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
Cost: $20-$40

Riviera Broadcasting's radio stations will host the first annual Old Town Mexican Beer Fest this weekend. Atendees can enjoy 14 samples of Mexican beers, from the traditional to the obscure. A Petco Cinco de Mayo

Where: Avondale Petco
When: Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Cost: FREE

Avondale Petco will celebrate a "re-grand opening" with a party for the whole family, including those with four legs. Activities include bird feeder workshops, face painting, piñatas and treat tastings for canine family members. Local businesses COSTCO, Panda Express, Jimmy Johns and Starbucks will also pass out complimentary snacks.

Cinco de Mayo Phoenix Festival

Where: Van Buren between Central Avenue and Third Street in Phoenix
When: Saturday 2 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
Cost: Adults $5; children under 12 free

The annual two-day block party will feature authentic Mexican food and drink, games and live entertainment from mariachi groups, dancers and traditional musicians.

El Mirage Annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Where: El Mirage City Plaza
When: Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Cost: FREE

Performances begin at 4:15 p.m. with performances from the Royalty Dance Squad and the Saguaro Skippers. Other performers include dance group Baile Folklorico Nueva Vida, Mariachi Corazon de Phoenix and the band Unstoppable. Face painting and balloon animals will be free for kids, and Mexican food, beer and wine round out the day's celebration.

Latin Comedy Night at Arizona Event Center

Where: Arizona Event Center in Mesa
When: Saturday at 8 p.m.
COST: $10 general seating; $20-200 for VIP treatment

Comedians Danny Serrano, Richard Galaviz Jr., Manny Llanez, Kevin Soto, Jorge Ruiz, Ernesto Ortiz and others will perform at the Arizona Event Center on Saturday.

City of Chandler Cinco de Mayo

Where: Chandler Public Library
When: Saturday at 10 a.m.
Cost: $20 for entry to races, $10 for beauty pageant, other entertainment FREE

The Chihuahua races and beauty pageant will headline Chandler's Cinco de Mayo celebration this year.  The festival will also offer Latin and mariachi bands, authentic Mexican cuisine, art, a lowrider show and more.

Quail Run Park UFiesta

Where: Quail Run Park in Mesa
When: Saturday at noon
Cost: $45 general admission; $125 VIP

Hard rock radio station KUPD is hosting  a concert and Cinco de Mayo party in Mesa. Scheduled to perform is Stone Sour, Chevelle, Heaven's Basement, Powerman 5000 and more. VIP access includes five adult beverages, unlimited non-alcoholic drinks and special parking.

Talking Stick Resort pool party

Where: Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale
When: Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
Cost: FREE; 21 or older

Talking Stick Resort is hosting a "Release" pool party for Cinco de Mayo. The perfect way to celebrate the holiday outdoors, the event will feature drink specials, giveaways, cabana rentals and more. Live music will be provided by some of the region's best DJ's, including San Francisco's Chris Harnett.

TQLA tequila party

Where: TQLA in Mesa
When: Sunday starting at 10 a.m.
Cost: FREE admission

For a one-of-a-kind Cinco de Mayo experience, TQLA offers four tequilas on tap. The party begins on the patio and includes a raffle and tequila tastings. Drink specials include $8 Don Julio margaritas, $2 off tap tequila shots, and $4.50 house margaritas.
