As he hinted he would last week, Justin Timberlake has indeed delivered a new single via his website.
Called "Suit & Tie," the song also features Jay-Z, who shares writing credits with Timberlake, Timbaland, Jerome "J-ROC" Harmon and James Flauntleroy.
Produced by Timberlake, Timbaland and J-Roc, "Suit & Tie" is also the first single from Timberlake's first album in six-and-a-half years, which he's calling "The 20/20 Experience."
That record is scheduled to drop sometime this year, and the single's currently available for purchase on iTunes for the next 24 hours. It's also streaming on the new MySpace and can be heard on the singer's website.
In an open letter to fans, Timberlake said he's preparing for big things in 2013.
"Back in June of last year, I quietly started working on what is now, my next journey with that thing I love called MUSIC," the 31-year-old said. "The inspiration for this really came out of the blue and to be honest, I didn't expect anything out of it. I just went into the studio and started playing around with some sounds and songs. It was probably the best time I've had in my career... Just creating with no rules and/or end goal in mind and really enjoying the process."
The result was that he developed something he "couldn't be more excited about! It is full of inspiration that I grew up listening to, and some newfound muses that I've discovered along the way. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it."
The New York Times called "Suit & Tie" a "dapper new single," while Billboard billed it as "a sleek, wholly assured dance number with several start-stop components arranged in a way that's reminiscent of the first 'Justified' single," referencing "Like I Love You" from Timberlake's 2002 solo album.
