Jennifer Lawrence has mom to thank for The Hunger Games role

JENNIFER LAWRENCE has her mom to thank for her rapid rise to fame because she talked the actress into accepting her life-changing role as KATNISS EVERDEEN in THE HUNGER GAMES.

The young beauty landed the coveted part in the hit franchise in 2011 and she's since gone on to become one of Hollywood's top leading ladies, landing an Oscar this year (13) for her critically-acclaimed role in Silver Linings Playbook.

However, the 22 year old, who was hesitant about signing onto a project with such a huge fan following, admits her career could have turned out much differently had she ignored mom Karen's advice.

She tells Britain's Fabulous magazine, "It's really rare that saying yes to something will completely change your life. I was happy with my life and I didn't know if I wanted it to change. I've always had this imaginary future where I would be a soccer mom that drove a mini-van and my kids would be normal. That just didn't fit with taking on a giant franchise. So, I took three days to decide, and each day was a different answer. I finally talked to my mom. I'd only really done indie films before that, and she said: 'Every time people ask you why you don't do studio movies, you always say that it's because you don't care about the size of the movie, you care about the story and the character. But you're a hypocrite, because now you have a story and a character that you love, but you're not saying yes to it because of the size of it.' So, I said yes."

However, Lawrence's parents weren't always so supportive, and when she quit school at the age of 14 to move to New York, her older brothers Ben and Blaine had to persuade mom and dad to let their daughter take a chance on her dreams.

She says, "My brothers called them and said: 'You've traveled all over the country with us, for baseball, football and basketball. This is her baseball game. You have to support her.' So they were forced to, at that point."
