Barbara Walters retiring: Reports say ABC host 'likely' to step down in 2014

NEW YORK - Longtime news anchor and television host Barbara Walters is "likely" to retire in 2014, according to several reports Thursday.

USA Today reported the 83-year-old host of ABC News specials and "The View" plans to step down next spring.

A person familiar with her plan to retire said we won't be hearing this directly from Walters just yet, according to the report.

Walters was hospitalized in January after fainting and hitting her head.

According to The Associated Press, she had chickenpox and a fever at the time in Washington and didn't realize it.

She returned to "The View" panel earlier this month.

Walters has worked for ABC since the 1970s.
