The hottest July July on record prior to July of 2009 occurred in 2003.

The average temperature this past July was 98.3 compared to 97.7 in 2003

Both months have many similarities.

July of 2009 and 2003 each had 15 days of at least 110 degree temperatures.

July of 2009 and 2003 each had 10 over night lows where the temperatures stayed at 90 degrees or above.

Rainfall for both of these months were below average with .40" falling this past July and .61" in July of 2003. The total amount of rain that fell for the 2003 monsoon season was 1.37". That's not good news for us here in the Valley. When July ends up with below average rainfall, usually the total amount of rain for the monsoon season is below average.
