PHOENIX - Travelers bound for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport late Friday or early Saturday should plan for an overnight closure of southbound State Route 143 as crews continue building new airport access bridges at the Salt River.

To the west, drivers on Interstate 10 could encounter delays near State Route 85 while crews relocate an overhead utility line. The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers plan extra travel time and consider alternate routes while these restrictions are in place:

  • Southbound State Route 143 closed between McDowell Road and University Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 21)for bridge construction. Note: Ramps to southbound SR 143 from eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard also closed. DETOUR: For airport access, eastbound Loop 202 drivers can use 44th Street south to Sky Harbor Boulevard. To access State Route 143 at University Drive, use 44th Street.
  • Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) connecting ramp to northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed from 5 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 22)for maintenance. DETOUR: Use northbound McClintock Drive as an alternate.
  • East- and westbound Interstate 10 near Buckeye closed intermittently west of State Route 85 (milepost 106) from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday (Jan. 21)for overhead utility work. Drivers should plan for 15-minute traffic stops.
  • Westbound Interstate 10 ramp to southbound State Route 85 in Buckeye closed from 11 p.m. Sunday to 3 p.m. Monday (Jan. 23) for guard rail improvements . DETOUR: Drivers can use southbound Miller Road to Broadway Road to access SR 85.
