PHOENIX - Before you hit the road this weekend, learn which parts of the Valley to avoid.

Drivers in some parts of the Phoenix area should plan ahead for freeway closures along stretches of I-17 and Loop 303 this weekend (Oct. 26-29).

Here's a rundown from the Arizona Department of Transportation:

INTERSTATE 17

It will be closed at the Interstate 10 ‘Stack’ interchange from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 29) for repair work on the Jefferson Street Bridge.

Both I-10 ramps to southbound I-17 also closed. Southbound I-17 on-ramp at McDowell Road closed.

Detour: Southbound I-17 traffic will detour onto I-10 at the Stack. Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes. Southbound I-17 frontage road will remain open and traffic can re-enter I-17 at Grant Street.

LOOP 303

It will be closed in both directions between Grand and Glendale avenues from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 28) to allow crews to switch traffic onto newly-constructed northbound lanes as part of ongoing freeway expansion project.

Most east-west cross streets in the area will remain open.

Detour: Traffic will detour on Reems Road.

GLENDALE AVENUE

It will be closed between Loop 303 and Cotton Lane from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 27) for freeway improvement work.

Detour: Consider using Bethany Home Road.
