It's being reported that New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow will be asking to be released or traded after this season.

The New York Daily News reports that Tebow will make the request after the season ends, assuming Greg McElroy makes his first career start against the San Diego Chargers this Sunday.

Coach Rex Ryan is pulling the plug on "supposed" franchise quarterback Mark Sanchez after last week's loss that cost the Jets a playoff spot.

The Daily News reports Tebow's wish to leave the Jets came to a head after McElroy got the go ahead for this week's game, according to a source.

McElroy has seven career passes in his NFL career, according to the report.

Yahoo!Sports reports Tebow was acquired in an off-season trade with the Denver Broncos after they signed quarterback Peyton Manning.
