According to the New York Times, seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong is considering publicly admitting he used banned performance-enhancing drugs during his cycling career.

In an article written Friday, the Times said Armstrong told associates and anti-doping officials he wants to do this to restore his eligibility to resume his athletic career.

In October of 2012, Armstrong was stripped of his Tour de France titles and banned for life by cycling's governing body following a report from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency that accused him of leading a massive doping program on his teams.

Armstrong has always denied doping, saying he passed hundreds of drug tests. He chose not to fight the USADA in the agency's arbitration hearings, arguing the process was biased against him.
