Colts bald cheerleaders: Team cheerleaders go bald to support coach Chuck Pagano, leukemia research

INDIANAPOLIS - After Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia in September, two of the team's cheerleaders decided to show their support in a nonconventional way- by shaving their heads after a fundraising contest.

According to Yahoo Sports , Megan M., a Colts cheerleader, promised to shave her head if they reached $10,000 for leukemia research.

Surprisingly and luckily enough, the team mascot Blue managed to raise over $22,000 for the cause, so Megan M. and Crystal B., another cheerleader, sat down during their game against the Buffalo Bills to say goodbye to their long, brunette locks.

Crystal reportedly battled leukemia as a child, Yahoo says.

"I've just had personal experiences with people who have had cancer," Megan told 24-hour News 8's Daniel Miller, cited on the Yahoo article. "I've had mentors and family members and volunteer at Riley and met little girls who have lost their hair and beat cancer multiple times. Just seeing struggles they went through and how they could overcome that and still have confidence and fight this fight without their hair -- they are really my inspiration for doing this."

Earlier in the season, some of the Colts players also shaved their head in support of Pagano.

Great Clips also joined the Colts benefit for leukeumia research by donating $10 for each person who agrees to shave their heads for the "ChuckStrong Challenge" campaign.

Yahoo says that over 800 fans have already shaved their head and $250,000 has been raised for the cause since the campaign began.
