Sixteen-year-old Jacob Pruett is about to represent the United States in a world championship triathlon.
Pruett is heading into the experience of a lifetime after overcoming a huge obstacle.
He had a leg amputated when he was just a baby.
Kristen, Pruett's mom, said she was more worried about her 5-week-old son surviving and the fact of the amputation didn’t really hit her until later.
Pruett’s coaches thought he’d be good at the sport and in just 1 1/2 years the teen has worked his way to qualify for the world competition.
Pruett says he’s not nervous and ready for the competition.
This will be only the fourth triathlon that Pruett has competed in and he’s already at world championship level.
He also recently met with a 9-year-old boy who’s about to have his leg amputated to help him know what to expect and what he can accomplish.
