AZ Cardinals’ Kolb still limping, Williams a question

FLAGSTAFF, AZ - We found out today that Kevin Kolb definitely has a thigh contusion and that Coach Ken Whisenhunt expects him to practice on Wednesday. But after watching Kevin go through some light quarterback drills Tuesday afternoon, I'm not sure he'll be ready to go by then.

Kevin was at practice Tuesday afternoon (at least for the beginning) but he wasn't in shoulder pads and helmets like his teammates and he struggled to jog. Watching Kolb run through some of the quarterback drills (and there weren't many at the beginning) it was obvious that he's still struggling with that right thigh bruise.

So we'll wait and see Wednesday night if he's actually back in uniform and scrimmaging.

In other news from training camp, running back Ryan Williams told me that coming into camp he wasn't planning on even playing in the early pre-season games, but after Saturday's scrimmage, the coaching staff came to him and asked him if he'd like to get some reps in this weekend against the Saints.

Williams says at this point he's not sure that's a good idea. So with Beanie Wells still not practicing and Williams not sure he's going to play Sunday, that leaves the Cardinals a little thin at running back.

I do expect the Cardinals to take a very cautious approach with both Beanie and Ryan and I do believe that's the best thing they can do right now. You don't want to start the regular season with your top two running backs hurting because they tried to get back into the lineup too soon.

What's frustrating is the fact that you want both of those guys (and the quarterbacks) healthy for the pre-season so they can get some much needed reps in and be ready to go in early September. But then again, I guess that's a real Catch-22 for the coaching staff.

Wednesday night is the annual "night practice" at NAU and for the first time in a long time, it's at Lumberjack Stadium instead of Coconino High School. The only catch to that is the fact that Lumberjack Stadium seats just 1,000 and it's first come, first served. So get there early if you want a seat.

The good news is that if it does rain, the practice will be moved inside the Sky Dome and that seats about 15,000.
