TEMPE, AZ - The Arizona Cardinals announced Monday afternoon they released quarterback John Skelton.
Around 4 p.m., Skelton tweeted about the move, saying "C'est la vie. Had some good times in AZ along with more than a few bad. On to the next endeavor."
Skelton, 25, was the Cardinals’ fifth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
In the same news release, the Cardinals said they signed the restricted free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer to a one-year qualifying offer.
Running back William Powell and defense end Ronald Talley also signed their contracts for the 2013 season, according to the news release.
Several online reports Monday said the Cardinals are close to making a deal with the Oakland Raiders that would send quarterback Carson Palmer to the Valley.
