The Hamilton football recruiting saga from this summer involving J.T. Gray is over. Coolidge alleged recruiting against the Huskies, both districts investigated and brought their findings to the AIA Executive Board during Monday’s monthly meeting.
Coolidge still felt there were shenanigans but had no proof. Hamilton said Gray’s athletic eligibility was likely going to be denied by the school because of an AIA bylaw prohibiting kids from transferring to a school in which they attended a camp or clinic (which is how this mess allegedly began). Gray briefly went to Basha, but is now in Mississippi with his father.
Right or wrong, it’s over. So, too, is another offseason of rumor-mongering, whispering and innuendos.
In other words, all the junk that isn’t about Friday nights, kids playing football, coaches coaching kids, and the excitement this all brings us back every year.

A revised transfer rule proposal still hovers out there somewhere. Maybe one will be brought forth this coming year. It should happen. It’s needed.
Until then, it’s once against time for the field to become everyone’s focus.
Starting with three games on Friday — Mountain Pointe at Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) in the Barry Sollenberger Classic, plus Queen Creek at Poston Butte and Campo Verde at Phoenix Barry Goldwater — a new season begins.
So, too, begins the unfolding of drama, heroes, possibilities and heartbreak on a weekly basis for the next three months.
It’s about time boys: take the field.
