Friday Night Blitz Wrap Up: Week 8
(#5) Desert Ridge vs. (#11) Red Mountain:
We get things rolling with our Game of the Week, the fifth ranked Desert Ridge Jaguars taking on the 11th ranked Red Mountain Lions in East Mesa.
Pick it up with just under six minutes to go in the first quarter; Red Mountain with a second and one at the Jaguars four yard line. Caleb Murray-Thomas takes the snap and hands off to Kaiden Molina. Molina takes it in and Red Mountain goes up 7-0.
First and ten Lions on their own 26, Murray-Thomas drops back to pass, but Sean Eremia picks it off and it’s Desert Ridge ball at the 45.
Less than three minutes to go in the half, Desert Ridge quarterback, Tarek Morrison hands off to twin brother Taren and Taren takes it in from the 9 and we’re tied at 7.
Ten seconds to go in the half, still tied at 7. Murray-Thomas gets picked off again. This time, it’s Josh Rocha and Rocha looks like he has a chance to score, but he gets dragged down at the one, so we’re tied at 7 at the intermission.
Desert Ridge improves to 7 and 1 on the season, with a 17-7 win over Red Mountain.
(#3) Queen Creek vs. (#4) Williams Field:
Two Division III Powers squaring off in Gilbert; the third ranked Queen Creek Bulldogs against the fourth ranked Williams Field Black Hawks, with both teams sitting at 6-1.
Williams Field jumps out to a 6-0 lead, and then quarterback Jeddediah Fagg hits Cole Forsgren in the back of the end zone to make it 14-0.
Queen Creek gets on the board with a quarterback keeper, but the Black Hawks beat up on the Bulldogs, 42-17.
(#10) Mountain View vs. (#18) Mesa:
Air 15 with the highlights from Mesa High School as the Jackrabbits host the Toros, and we pick it up in the third tied at 21.
Mountain View puts together a nice drive and caps it off with a 15 yard touchdown pass from John Clark to Brock Westover to put the Toros up 28-21.
Mountain View improves to 6 and 2 on the season, beating the Jackrabbits, 42-24.
(#2) Sunnyslope vs. Camelback:
To Phoenix, with the undefeated Sunnyslope Vikings taking on the winless Camelback Spartans.
The Vikings led by 6’9” senior quarterback Michael Humphrey. Humphrey finds Jason Eshelman on the dump pass and Eshelman cruises into the end zone. Humphrey, a top recruit in basketball, says he’ll make his college choice in November.
The big man leads the Vikings to an easy 45-0 win over Camelback!
(#15) Boulder Creek vs. (#6) Horizon:
The 15th ranked Boulder Creek Jaguars taking on the sixth ranked Horizon Huskies in Scottsdale.
Boulder Creek strikes first on a 20 yard field goal to take a three-nothing lead. But the high scoring Huskies come right back! Quarterback Dalton Sneed buys some time, can’t find anyone open, so he runs it himself, and ends up getting knocked out of bounds right in front of our camera!
Four plays later, Sneed hands off to Luke Quinn for an 11 yard touchdown and the Huskies lead it 7-3.
Second quarter action; this time Sneed hits Jason McLaurin for a 79-yard touchdown and the Huskies lead it 14 to 3.
Horizon goes on to win over Boulder Creek, 48-24.
(#4) Hamilton vs. (#22) Gilbert:
More highlights from the air as the fourth ranked Hamilton Huskies take on the 1 and 6 Gilbert Tigers in Gilbert.
And this one is all Huskies! Hamilton jumps out to a 42 – 0 lead in the third and that would be your final! The Huskies improve to 6 and 2 on the season, winning easily, 42-0.
