I don’t mean to rain on anybody’s parade, but frankly, I’m not thrilled about Cardinals training camp in Glendale! Last time I checked, the temperature in Glendale is exactly the same as it is in Phoenix and that gives me absolutely no reason to escape to Glendale.
Escape to Glendale! That’s actually kind of funny!
But seriously, for twenty-three years, fans have been making the trek to Flagstaff during one of the hottest months of the year, literally escaping the heat, watching some football, enjoying the rain and pine trees and supporting the fine businesses of Flagstaff.
And now, that tradition is gone!
Never mind that Sports Illustrated and ESPN have rated Northern Arizona University and Flagstaff as one of the top venues in the Nation for an NFL summer training camp. Never mind that we’ve established a tradition over the course of nearly twenty-five years.
Forget about the fact that the City of Flagstaff and NAU have been great hosts to thousands and thousands of fans over the years. No, it’s time to move to Glendale! Gone is the fun interaction between fans and players. Gone is the standing in the cool pines of Flagstaff watching training camp.
And that’s too bad for those of us who actually enjoy getting out of the Phoenix heat for a few days!
That’s Fouhy on Sports!
