PHOENIX - This weekend, the “D” in D-backs stood for “dominant.” The Rockies didn’t just get swept, they got schooled.
The total tally by which the Diamondbacks outscored the Rockies was 22-2. The D-backs out hit the Rockies 33-12.
More importantly, Colorado started the three game series 2 1/2 games behind first place Arizona and continued on its 10-game road trip against NL West teams now 5 1/2 games out.
And think about this. Three lefty starting pitchers led the way. Why is that significant? Here’s why. The D-backs just went from June 5 to July 3 without a starting pitcher registering a win (24 games).
Against Colorado, the D-backs got pitching precision with the trio delivering eight sterling innings apiece:
"He deserved it a long time ago," catcher Miguel Montero said about Corbin’s seventh attempt at win No. 10. "Obviously he hasn't had run support. That's why it's been tough. He should be 15-0, to be honest."
As for the number 16… the D-backs are now 16-2 in Corbin’s starts this season and the D-backs offense banged out 16 extra base hits in the 3-game series.
The D-backs are riding a season-high five-game winning streak with the Dodgers coming to town for another divisional series starting Monday.
