PHOENX - Now that the Arizona Cardinals announced they officially acquired quarterback Carson Palmer through a trade with the Oakland Raiders, let's learn more about him.
In exchange for Carson, the Cardinals swapped 2013 draft picks and a conditional pick in 2014.
He joins the Cardinals after spending the last two years with the Raiders. Prior to his time with the Raiders, he played with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2004 to 2010.
But who is Palmer?
The 33-year-old all-star quarterback has some shining stats on his record.
Here are some of his highlights from last season:
--Last season, Palmer threw for 4,018 yards in 15 games. He is the second QB in Raiders history to top 4,000 yards in a single season.
--During his two seasons with the Raiders, Palmer started 24 games, completing 544 of 893 pass attempts (60.9%) for 6,774 yards, 35 touchdowns and 30 interceptions with an 83.5 passer rating.
--His 345 completions totaled the third-most in franchise history.
--Palmer’s interception-to-pass attempt ration was only 2.5% in 2012.
--He threw for 22 touchdown passes, making 2012 his sixth season with 20 or more touchdown passes.
--Last November, he passed the 3,000-yard mark in his 10th game of the season, the fastest he he’s reached that plateau in his career.
--In weeks 9-11 of 2012, he threw for more than 300 yards in three straight games and had six 300-yard games in all.
--Palmer completed 61.1% of his pass attempts in 2012. It was the 8th time in nine seasons as a starter that he finished the season with a completion percentage over 60.
Palmer was the 2002 Heisman Trophy Winner when he played at the University of Southern California before the Bengals snatched him in the 2003 NFL Draft.
In 2005, Palmer broke the Bengals losing streak. He led them to their first winning season, playoff appearance and division title since 1990.
Palmer has been in the Pro Bowl twice and in 2006, he was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
He now ranks 6th among active quarterbacks in career pass attempts and completions and ranks 7th in both career passing yards and touchdown passes.
What do you think? Will Palmer make a difference in the Cardinals organization?
