PHOENIX - Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is just 303 yards away from breaking Jerry Rice's single-season mark of 1,848 yards that was set with San Francisco back in 1995.
"He's the best," said Larry Fitzgerald after practice on Thursday. "He's so big and so fast, he's got all of the physical tools you can ask for. Mentally, he's honed in and a good guy, a competitor. He's got the complete package and there's a reason why he's been able to accomplish what he's been able to accomplish in a short time."
Johnson reached 1,500 receiving yards on Sunday for a third consecutive season. It was also his sixth straight 100-yard game.
"It's impressive. To think about putting up that many yards in a single season from the wide receiver position is crazy. I know he's probably thinking he can get to 2,000. He's gotta have another monster game in these last three games or put together a couple of good ones and he'd be right there knocking on the door," Fitzgerald added.
By the way, the Lions face the Cardinals on Sunday. However, Johnson has been limited to six catches for just 72 yards in their last two matchups. The Lions have lost the last three meetings overall and five straight in Arizona since December 12, 1993.
