Congratulations to ASU Basketball’s all-time leading scorer, Eddie House, who will be honored this next season when his jersey is hoisted into the rafters at Wells Fargo Arena.
ASU basketball coach, Herb Sendek making the announcement that House will become the fifth basketball player to be so honored.
House played for ASU from 1996 to 2000, finishing his career as the team’s all-time leading scorer with 2,044 points and tying Lew Alcindor’s Pac-10 record with 61 points in a game at California in January of 2000.
“I had to coach against Eddie twice in the 1999-2000 season, and let me tell you I have never watched a player come off a screen and hit shots like him,” said Coach Sendek, who watched House average 30.5 points in two Sun Devil games against NC State.
House will join former Sun Devils Jumpin’ Joe Caldwell, Lionel Hollins, Buron Scott and Fat Lever in the rafters at Wells Fargo Arena. The exact date of the ceremony will be announced once the Pac-12 releases the complete 2013-2014 schedule in September.
When House scored 61 points against Cal, he actually outscored 55 Division I teams. It was just the sixth time since 1978 that a player had more than 60 points in a single game involving two Division I teams.
Eddie was the only senior on a team with six true freshman and led ASU to just its fourth 19 win season in 17 years. He also became the first player to earn Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for three straight weeks in one season and just the fourth player to earn the award four times in a season. He ended the season as the nation’s fourth leading scorer with 23.0 points per game.
Eddie was also ASU’s first basketball player to earn Pac-10 Player of the Year honors!
