Philadelphia Eagles receiver, Riley Cooper has really put his foot squarely in his mouth! In a cell phone video, Cooper was caught using the “N” word in a confrontation with an African-American security guard at a Kenny Chesney concert in June.
The video got out yesterday and Riley’s been begging for forgiveness ever since.
See the YouTube video below. (Warning: Graphic language)
In a statement, the Eagles said, “In meeting with Riley yesterday, we decided together that his next step will be to seek outside assistance to help him fully understand the impact of his words and actions. He needs to reflect. As an organization, we will provide the resources he needs to do so.”
Really? Do the Eagles really think Riley Cooper needs to reflect? Don’t you think he already knows what he did? Maybe he needs help as he moves forward, but I certainly don’t think he needs any time to reflect.
At today practice, Cooper looked like a man on an island. Throughout practice, reporters say Cooper stood alone.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league can’t take further action because the collective bargaining agreement prevents a player from being penalized by his team and the league. He did say, “Obviously we stand for diversity and inclusion. Comments like that, they are obviously wrong, they are offensive and they are unacceptable. There is no one that feels stronger about that than the NFL, our teams and our players.”
Cooper did face the media today and said, “There was a confrontation and I handled it extremely, extremely poorly. This is kind of the lowest of lows. This isn't the type of person I want to be portrayed as. This isn't the type of person that I am. I know no one in Philadelphia is happy with me right now. I accept that. I just hope they see the true me. And accept my apology.''
So my question is: how in the world is Riley Cooper ever going to be able to play another down in the NFL? The league is comprised of about 68 percent African-American so no matter where Cooper ends up playing, he’s going to be in trouble.
Riley Cooper just needs to take some time off and get away from the limelight and his teammates, because after all, you can’t expect anyone to stand up for him.
In my opinion, Riley Cooper is DONE!
