The Cardinals franchise has been around since 1920, and in those 92 seasons the team has never started four different quarterbacks in a single season... until now.

Brian Hoyer will get his first career NFL start this Sunday against the 49ers in the season finale for the Cardinals after throwing for 105 yards and an interception in relief of Ryan Lindley.

This is just another mark on a historically bad season for the team, which lost nine straight games for the first time since 1944, and suffered its worst loss in franchise history in a 58-0 beating by the Seahawks.

The move shouldn't come as a surprise considering what we've seen from John Skelton and Lindley this season, and Hoyer's performance could very well determine his job status for next season.

It's clear Skelton is not the answer, and Lindley needs a lot more work. So while Hoyer may not be the starter next year (depending on what happens this offseason with Kolb and the draft/free agency), he could very well be the team's primary backup.

One thing is for sure: regardless of his performance and the game's outcome on Sunday, this season is one to forget for the Cardinals.
