SATURDAY 11/19
NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY
Maricopa County Superior Court is expecting to have the largest National Adoption Day event in the United States, with 343 kids scheduled to be adopted. 9am-2:30pm, Durango Juvenile Court, Phoenix.
FAMILY CIRCUS FUNERAL
Funeral services will be held for cartoonist Bil Keane, creator of the Family Circus cartoon. 1pm, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Scottsdale.
FEMA RESCUE DOG TRAINING
Canines with search specialist handlers from across the country will be put through a FEMA disaster preparedness certification test. Once certified, the dog and handler are able to deploy to local, national, or international disasters. 5:30am-3:30pm Saturday and Sunday, Phoenix Fire Special Operations.
ASU VS UofA
The Arizona State University Sun Devils host the Arizona Wildcats in the annual “Territorial Cup” rivalry game. 7:30pm, Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe.
USA WOMEN SOCCER
The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team will play Sweden in preparation for 2012 Olympic Qualifying. 7pm, University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale.
TALL TREE LIGHTING
Outlets at Anthem will light the nation’s tallest Christmas tree, with special guests including Grammy-winning recording artist Michelle Branch. The 110-foot white fir is decorated with more than 18,000 LED lights, ornaments, and bows. 6:30pm, Outlets at Anthem.
SUNDAY 11/20
TEMPE IRONMAN
More than 2,500 athletes will compete in the Ford Ironman Arizona. Events include swimming, running, and biking around scenic areas of Tempe, including Tempe Town Lake, finishing in Papago Park.
LIGHT UP A LIFE
Hospice of the Valley’s “Light Up a Life” remembrance will commemorate loved ones who have died. The event will feature the Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix. 6pm, Steele Indian School Park, Phoenix.
CARDINALS AT 49ERS
The Arizona Cardinals, winners of two in a row, travel to San Francisco to play the 49ers. 2:05pm, Candlestick Park, San Francisco.
