FAST & FURIOUS SENTENCING
Jaime Avila, Jr., one of 20 defendants arrested and charged in the ATF Operation Fast and Furious gun trafficking investigation, is scheduled to be sentenced. Two rifles traced to an illegal weapons purchase by Avila were found at the scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry's murder. A member of Terry's family will speak at the court hearing. 8:45 a.m., Sandra Day O'Connor U.S. Courthouse, Phoenix.
SUV ROLLOVER ARRAIGNMENT
Richard Castro, charged with aggravated assault and endangerment for allegedly causing a collision in which five children were ejected from an SUV, is scheduled to be arraigned. 8:30 a.m., Maricopa County Superior Court, Phoenix.
JOEY'S LAW
Governor Jan Brewer will ceremonially recognize "Joey's Law," signed into law earlier this year to toughen penalties on fatal hit-and-run drivers. It is named for Joey Romero, struck by a car while walking home from work. 9 a.m., Peoria City Hall.
FIRE LIFESAVER AWARD
The Glendale Fire Department will honor Roger Kidd, who saved Thomas Berg and his dogs from a house fire by knocking on his door and ringing the doorbell to wake him up. 12 p.m., Fire Station 155, Glendale.
AMPUTEE HIKE
Double-leg amputee Stephen Rennecker will be transported to the top of a mountain trail by volunteer police officers and firefighters for a special experience and view. 1p.m., Pinnacle Peak Park, Scottsdale.
CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR ANIMALS
Animals at the Maricopa County Sheriff's Animal Safehouse will take part in a Christmas party. 10 a.m., MCSO Mash Unit, Phoenix.
PHOENIX OPEN TEE OFF LUNCHEON
Defending tournament champion Kyle Stanley will be among those at the Waste Management Phoenix Open Tee Off Luncheon. 10:40 a.m., The Phoenician Resort.
