The traditional corner drugstore, Walgreens, is hoping to transform into a "health and daily living store," according to recent reports from the store chain.
Walgreens is reporting that eleven stores in Phoenix and Tucson are part of the initiative, adding various customer-related amenities.
Participating stores will have combinations of more accessible pharmacists, a Health Guide to help answer customer questions about products, health and events, fresh food, larger beauty departments, healthy juices, smoothies and a cafe.
Some of the new products include fruits and vegetables, meats, prepared salads, pizzas and other meal options, niche beauty brands, brewed coffees, fresh drinks, more opportunities for health testing and more, according to a news release.
In addition, Walgreens is participating in a mobile sampling tour, allowing Phoenix residents the opportunity to try some of their new additions.
This tour and initiative, called the "Up Market: Fresh," locations and sampled items can be found on Twitter via @upmarketfresh .
Walgreens is making these changes in hopes of showing customers "their commitment to (helping) people get, stay and live well," according to the president of daily living products and solutions for Walgreens, Joe Magnacca.
