GRAND CANYON SHUTDOWN PROTEST
Business owners, workers, and residents in and around the Grand Canyon will protest the federal government shutdown and the rejection of financial offers to keep the park open. 1 p.m., SR-64 at Grand Canyon South Rim entrance gates.
AIA DEER VALLEY APPEAL
Deer Valley High School will appeal its Arizona Interscholastic Association athletic post-season ban, put in place by AIA after the school played two ineligible football players. 10 a.m., Arizona Interscholastic Association, Phoenix.
VETERAN BURIAL SERVICE
The unclaimed remains of 43 veterans will be given an honorable burial service. 9 a.m., National Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix.
I-11 STUDY MEETING
Arizona Department of Transportation officials will hold a public meeting on preliminary route alternatives for a future Interstate 11 connecting Phoenix to Las Vegas. This is the first of five public meetings this month in Arizona and Nevada. 5:30 p.m., City Council Chambers, Avondale.
