SUMMER OLYMPICS START
Opening ceremonies will kick off the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The games will last through August 12.

COYOTES STAR DEADLINE
Reports quoting Phoenix Coyotes star Shane Doan's agent indicate Doan has given prospective team owner Greg Jamison until Friday to show major progress toward finalizing the purchase or he will sign with a free agent contract with another team.

NEWS HELICOPTER CRASH ANNIVERSARY
Five years ago, on July 27, 2007, news helicopters from KTVK-TV and KNXV-TV collided mid-air over Steele Indian School Park while covering a police pursuit. All four journalists aboard the two helicopters were killed.

DROWNING AWARENESS DAY
August is Drowning Awareness Impact Month. In advance of this, the City of Mesa and Southwest Ambulance will host Drowning Awareness Day, which will include free swim time, CPR classes, safety booths, and games. 8am-12pm, Skyline Aquatic Center, Mesa.
