COLD CASE MURDER SENTENCING
Gary Bivens, who pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with a 1981 murder, is scheduled to be sentenced. 9 a.m., Maricopa County Superior Court, Phoenix.

POLICE TECHNOLOGY
The Tempe Police Department will demonstrate their new wireless reporting technology, which they credit for catching a dangerous robbery suspect. 10 a.m., Apache Police Substation, Tempe.

MAYORS CONFERENCE
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton will be in Washington for the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting Thursday through Saturday. Topics will include defense cuts, trade with Mexico, economic development, and security challenges.

ROCK 'N' ROLL MARATHON KICK-OFF
Event organizers and city leaders will kick off the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon weekend of activities. 11 a.m., P.F. Chang's China Bistro, Tempe.
