P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon traffic restrictions in Phoenix on Sunday

PHOENIX - P.F. Chang's 10th Annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon is this Sunday in Phoenix, featuring pop singer Andy Grammer.

According to RunRocknRoll.com , the thousands of participants will be greeted at the finish line with a performance by Grammer, 8-ounce Jamba Juice smoothies, and of course, cheering family, friends and other supporting spectators.

The marathon will kick off at 7:50 a.m. at CityScape in Downtown Phoenix. The half marathon will begin at the same time in downtown Tempe on Mill Avenue and 3rd Street. The bike tour starts at 7:15 a.m. in Downtown Phoenix as well.

Officials said they will provide racers with everything they need for proper nourishment (and motivation) throughout the course, which runs from Downtown Phoenix through Scottsdale, ending in Tempe. Live bands and cheer squads will be performing along the course to encourage participants to keep moving at their best pace.

Race course details

The course will start at Washington and 3rd streets in downtown Phoenix, turn right at 7th Avenue and head north to Missouri Avenue. The course will continue east until 24th Street where racers will turn south to Camelback Road. Racers will head east to Arcadia Drive where they will head south.

At this point, the bikers and runners take separate courses for a while. Runners head east along Indian School Road to Marshall Way before heading back along the same path to 48th Street where they meet up with the bikers again and keep moving south. Racers will then turn east on Van Buren Street and head down to Mill Avenue and 3rd Street toward the finish line.  

The half marathon track is different. These runners start in Tempe and head east on University Drive from Mill Avenue, turn north onto McClintock Drive, turn west on McDowell Road, head north on Scottsdale Road, east on Thomas Road, turn south on 64th Street, and back to the finish line.

Since the participants will be racing through closed streets, there will be traffic restrictions Sunday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

ADOT officials said to avoid the race area if possible and added that the following roads and freeway ramps will be closed:

Westbound Interstate 10 off-ramp at Seventh Avenue will be closed from 4 .m. to 9:15 a.m. Sunday morning. Eastbound I-10 off-ramp at 7th Avenue will be limited to southbound turns during the same hours.

Westbound Loop 202 off ramp at Van Buren Street will be closed from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastbound Loop 202 off-ramp and westbound on-ramp at McClintock Drive will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Both Loop 202 off-ramps at Scottsdale Road will be restricted to northbound traffic from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
