PHOENIX - The Arizona Supreme Court on Wednesday will rule on a death row inmate's appeal of his convictions and sentences.
Stephen Reeves was sentenced to death after being convicted in Maricopa County Superior Court for the June 2007 killing of Norma Contreras at the business where she worked.
Reeves took Contreras' car keys, cellphone and wallet but was arrested within minutes because a customer at a nearby business heard Contreras' screams and called 911.
A jury convicted Reeves of murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary and car theft.
Part of Reeve' appeal focused on how he was sentenced to death.
The jury couldn't agree on a sentence during the penalty phase, so the trial judge declared a mistrial. A new jury then determined that Reeves should be sentenced to death.
